The local e-commerce storefront

GATINEAU, NOV. 28, 2016- Just in time for the holiday season, the SADC de Papineau has launched the Acheter ici Outaouais web platform, a unique storefront for online merchants. Aiming to promote local e-commerce, the site is a directory of online stores and transactional websites from Outaouais.

Boosting e-commerce
Alarming facts from CEFRIO have confirmed a long-standing trend: Quebecers are purchasing more and more online, but from outside of the province. In 2015, 75% of the 8 billion dollars worth of web purchases left Quebec: an enormous capital outflow for the province and its businesses. By creating the Acheter ici Outaouais promotional platform, the SADC de Papineau aims to encourage local enterprises to make the jump to e-commerce and to incite consumers to buy local.

“Changes in consumer behaviour result in the fragility of small businesses, particularly in rural areas. Since accessibility to their store is a major challenge, an e-commerce strategy is becoming a must for our local enterprises,” says Mélissa Bergeron, Executive Director for SADC de Papineau. “Our retailers’ presence online is our priority.”

Contrary to an online purchasing platform, Acheter ici does not sell products. It is a promotional storefront for online merchants. The website is a directory that redirects users to participating members’ online stores. Using a simple search engine and a navigation tool sorted by category, web users will be able to find the product or service they are looking for among the Outaouais enterprises in only a few clicks.

Benefit from the hustle and bustle of the holidays
With the platform now launched, Outaouais businesses that sell online are invited to register with Acheter ici to benefit from the upcoming holiday celebrations. “We are hoping merchants and consumers will get on board this year so that Christmas gifts will be purchased online... but in Outaouais!” states Mélissa Bergeron.

A recent survey commissioned by the Conseil québécois du commerce de détail (CQCD) revealed that 27% of Quebecers will purchase at least one Christmas gift online this year. “It is to the advantage of Outaouais merchants to jump on and join the bandwagon,” she adds.

SADC will continue its efforts to promote this project over the upcoming year to order for it to become an indispensable tool in Outaouais. The Acheter ici platform can easily be adapted to all regions of Quebec and become a natural purchasing reflex for consumers in the province.

The SADC de Papineau team supports Outaouais entrepreneurs interested in being available both online and for e-commerce with affordable solutions tailored to their reality.
